Craobh Haven - Oban

From our base at Craobh Haven it is possible to access a huge region of superb cruising depending upon time and weather. The presence of so many islands in this area means that it is usually possible to find somewhere to go in most weather conditions. To the south lies Loch Craignish with Ardfern Marina at its head and Crinan, where the canal gives access to the Firth of Clyde and its associated lochs. Beyond Crinan, the Sound of Jura leads to the islands of Ghiga, Islay and Jura itself.

After passing through the Sound of Luing or Cuan Sound, heading westward will take you past the islands of Scarba and the Garvellachs along the south coast of Mull to the Sound of Iona with its famous abbey and beyond to Staffa and Fingal’s Cave. Alternatively, you may wish to head southward down the remote west coast of Jura with its raised beaches, or out to the island of Colonsay.

Northward will take you past Seil Island to the busy port of Oban with its marina on Kererra Island. From here you may continue north along Loch Linne which eventually leads to Glencoe and Fort William. However, most people choose to follow the Sound of Mull past Lochaline to the historic town of Tobermory or the quiet waters of Loch Sunart.

Beyond Tobermory, the majestic West Coast continues. For those planning a circumnavigation of Mull, the next destination is possibly the twin isles of Coll and Tiree, Heading north, one rounds Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point on mainland Britain. From here the choice is yours. The islands of Rhum, Eigg, Muck, and Canna are just to the north. To the northeast one heads towards the remote areas of Knoydart and the Sound of Sleat giving access to Skye. On the horizon to the northwest beckon the Outer Hebrides, distant, but by no means out of reach.
